Gynaecological Problems

Gynaecological Problems

Pain, discomfort or general feeling of being unwell could indicate you have some form of gynaecological complaint. If you are experiencing discomfort or pain, even if things just 'don't feel quite right', then it is important to seek medical advice.

At NG GyneHealth, we effectively treat and manage the symptoms associated with many gynaecological problems If you need surgery, most procedures are done laparoscopically (key hole) or vaginally so that there are no big scars on the abdomen, and the recovery is significantly quicker. We can assist with the following:

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

We are proud to bring this minimally invasive procedure to Mackay. Both Dr Gaunekar and Dr Rodrigues have expertise in this procedure and have helped numerous Mackay women avoid a large cut on their abdomen to have their uterus removed.

The Laparoscopic Hysterectomy has the advantage of a much shorter down time, speedier return to normal activities and is cosmetically a much more attractive option.

Laparoscopic Hysterectomies have been also clearly associated with decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and fewer abdominal wall infections when compared with abdominal hysterectomies.

A vast majority of hysterectomies can be performed laparoscopically in the hands of appropriately trained and skilled Gynaecologists. If you need a hysterectomy and would like to explore this quicker way to recovery speak to our doctors at NGGynehealth for more information.

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

For women with heavy menstrual bleeding, we are also able to offer other minimally invasive options such as endometrial ablation by a novel method that has one of the highest satisfaction rates amongst women.

Fibroids (also known as Myomas or Leiomyomas) are tumours of the uterine muscle that are often found in the uterus. They are almost always benign. They can cause Heavy Menstrual Bleeding, Fertility problems and /or pressure symptoms depending on their number, size and location.

The location of the fibroids is the most important determinant of how much it is likely to affect the woman.

They are called Submucous if they grow into the cavity of the uterus, Intramural if they grow within the wall of the uterus and Subserous if they grow out on the surface of the uterus. If they have a stalk, they are called pedunculated.

The general principle is that the closer the fibroid is to the cavity or into it, the more likely it is to cause symptoms such as bleeding or subfertility.

Hysteroscopic Treatment of Fibroids

In women with Submucous fibroids, Hysteroscopic resection of the fibroid is generally very rewarding in reducing menstrual loss and restoring fertility. The surgery is done without any cuts on the belly as a day only procedure and needs hardly any time for recovery. The data on surgical resection of intramural and Subserous fibroids to address these concerns remains less conclusive.
